Counting systems can identify and classify vehicles, but can they also track repeat visits? And can they do this without compromising people’s privacy and complying with GDPR?
Here is how it’s done
Cameras and AI-powered software detect vehicles. When counting recurring vehicles, the software scans the registration numbers and securely encodes them. It thus anonymises the license plate information so that it cannot be traced back to an individual. No actual registrations are stored; only encrypted codes are processed.
It fully complies with GDPR by collecting only the necessary data for counting revisiting vehicles, with immediate anonymization of personal information. The license plate numbers are never collected.
