Sensors using the latest generation of laser particle counters immediately report levels of harmful particulates in the air at locations around the city.
Air pollution has been identified as the greatest environmental cause of morbidity and mortality in the world at present, and particulate matter (PM) is shown to have the greatest health impact of all measured pollutants.

Particulate matter (PM) is categorised by size. PM1 is where particles are less than 1 µm (0.001 mm diameter), PM2.5 are bigger at ≤ 2.5 µm and PM10 larger still at ≤ 10 µm.
The sensors count suspended particles in sizes from 0.3 µm. The system calculates and reports the PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations in real-time in µg/m3.
Pollution levels are instantly reported alongside people counts, traffic levels, temperature, wind speed, humidity and other information. Analysing data over time helps smart cities attain and sustain clean air standards. The system is easy to install in city centres, car parks, along motorways and in any outdoor space.
The air quality monitors are easily installed around the city, often fixed to lamp posts for example. They can be placed on their own or added to our people and vehicle counting units, using the same power supply. The pollution sensor can be placed at just the right height to monitor the particulate density at pedestrian level, using an extension lead. Alternative it can be mounted directly onto the people or vehicle counters. High spatial resolution allows targeted measures.
The system connects wirelessly to the Internet-of-Things and stores readings in the cloud. People can view live information on their smart phones. Providing updates of current air pollution levels makes clean air policies more attractive to more people, gaining support for traffic reduction measures for example.
The small size and easy of installation means many monitoring points can be placed around the city – mapping air pollution black spots. Analysing data over time helps cities raise air quality and improve peoples’ health.
