AI boosts in-store retail analytics

Using artificial intelligence, our footfall counting systems accurately pick out people in live video from CCTV cameras. In a store though, people are sometimes partly obscured by displays of merchandise and other obstacles. We’ve now taught the AI to accurately distinguish a person even when just their head and shoulders are visible. This provides more insights into customer behaviour and a greater range of retail analytics which can be used to maximise the potential of the store. Learn more about how AI is transforming retail…

Dwell Time

Dwell Time is the length of time a person spends looking at a display or remains a specific area. An essential retail metric for analysing shopping behaviour and increasing customer spending. The longer a person stands looking at a display, the more likely they are to buy something. Measuring this dwell time, and acting to improve it, will increase sales. Using artificial intelligence, our system can measure dwell times anywhere around the store, including previously tricky locations.

Know your Shopper

The AI lets retailers understand their customers. The system can determine a person’s gender and approximate age. Retailers can use this, for example, to target digital signage to the person currently looking at it.

Exclude Colleagues

We have trained the intelligent system to recognise company clothing and exclude members of staff wearing it from the footfall analysis and results.

Shopper Tracking

Heat maps of routes around the store show popular areas and where there is room for improvement.

Fully Compliant with GDPR

The AI analyses the video stream from the CCTV and produces its counts and and other analytics: no images are saved or transmitted so peoples’ privacy is protected. The only time video is transmitted is during commissioning, when we, or the installers, manually check the counts to confirm accuracy.

Artificial Intelligence is transforming Retail

Retail Sensing

Retail Sensing manufacture the Video Turnstile people counting, vehicle sensing and smart city equipment. Our systems not only measure footfall and traffic, but monitor queues, display occupancy, track shoppers around stores, show heat maps of most visited areas, record passenger numbers, count pedestrians and provide retail intelligence and key performance indicators.
