Video Turnstile systems were originally produced by Biodata Ltd, data acquisition and control specialists since 1973. Then, in 2012, Biodata decided to form a new company dedicated to counting people and related specialisms. Biodata's people counting R & D and software teams moved to the new company. Our head office, design and production facilities are in Manchester in the UK. View our environmental policy.Learn More

Retail Sensing systems not only measure footfall and count people, but manage queues, display occupancy, track shoppers around stores, show heat maps of most visited areas, log passenger numbers and provide marketing information. The technology provides the basis for many applications in retail, leisure and other sectors.
Now more than any time stores and other businesses need accurate counts of the number of people on their premises. Our occupancy counting systems let you monitor different areas within the building, as well as the overall occupancy - helping ensure social distancing. Live totals are shown on LED displays, on secure web browsers and on smart phones. Visual alerts & texts are sent to warn staff when capacity limits are approaching.
Quantify the use of footpaths and cycle ways. Show the use of roads, including commuter routes around schools and major routes through the city centre. Helps create a city that uses technology to meet the complex needs of its people. Clever solutions to urban problems.
Using cameras and intelligent counting units, the Video Turnstile vehicle traffic counting system achieves over 98% accuracy in all conditions: day and night in rain, sun and snow. Find out more… You can set the vehicle traffic detectors to count vehicles going straight on or turning. One camera can cover several exits of a junction. At four-way junctions, for example, the system provides multi-directional counts for vehicles turning north, south, east or west and coming from any direction.
Tried and tested in the harshest of weather, outdoor people counting systems are over 98% accurate even in the busiest situations. Called Video Turnstile, our counters keep working through sun, rain, snow, freezing temperatures and wind all year round. Stores, shopping centres, venues, stadiums, attractions and even hot air balloons are using our open-air footfall and people counting systems. Counts are securely sent wirelessly to a head office for key performance indicator analysis.
