There are many ways available today to count vehicles, incuding: manual, video, pneumatic tubes, piezoelectric sensor, inductive loop, magnetic sensor, acoustic detector, passive infrared devices and doppler & radar microwave sensors.

Vehicle sensors are grouped into two categories: non-intrusive (over-roadway) and intrusive (in-roadway).

Vehicle sensing using CCTV cameras and clever algorithms is an accurate and easily configured method.
